Complete Hawan Procedure
- 1Preparation
Take a bath. Sanctify the space for puja. Prepare a wooden podium and cover it with a yellow cloth. Put an idol or portrait of Maa Baglamukhi on the altar. Put the hawan kund (fire pit) on sandalwood and mango wood.
- 2Sankalp (Pledge)
Sit east or north facing, and make sankalp (vow) to perform the hawan in faith, stating your intention (e.g., safety, success). Sprinkle water on the deity and read the sankalp mantra.
- 3Ganesh Puja
Perform Lord Ganesha worship prior to breaking the hurdles. Put sweets, flowers, and chant Ganesha mantras.
- 4Kalash Sthapana
Position a kalash (pot) of water, mango leaves, and a coconut near the altar. Invoke the divine energies in the kalash.
- 5Maa Baglamukhi Invocation
Chant the Baglamukhi Mool Mantra: 'Om Hreem Baglamukhi Sarvadushtanam Vacham Mukham Padam Stambhaya Jihvam Kilaya Buddhi Vinashaya Hreem Om Swaha'. Offer yellow flowers, turmeric, and sandalwood paste oblations to the goddess.
- 6Hawan
Add camphor and ghee in hawan kund and light the fire. Add ghee, sesame seeds, and hawan samagri in the fire chanting Baglamukhi mantra 108 times or as instructed by the priest. Close the hawan with a coconut and the final mantra.
- 7Aarti and Prasadam
Recite Maa Baglamukhi aarti with a ghee lamp and bhajans. Offer prasadam (blessed food) to devotees.
