Who is Maa Kamala?
The Tantric form of Lakshmi. The tenth Mahavidya, she represents the ultimate culmination of spiritual practice into material abundance, beauty, and prosperity.
Origin & Mythology
Kamala is closely related to the traditional Goddess Lakshmi, who emerged from the churning of the cosmic ocean (Samudra Manthan). However, as a Mahavidya, she is worshipped independently of Lord Vishnu. She represents the autonomous, raw power of material creation and sustenance.
Divine Iconography
She is golden in complexion and sits on a magnificent pink lotus. She is flanked by four white elephants pouring nectar over her from golden pitchers. She holds two lotuses and displays the mudras of fearlessness (Abhaya) and boon-giving (Varada).
