Who is Maa Matangi?
The Tantric form of Saraswati. She governs the spoken word, music, inner knowledge, and possesses the supreme power of Vashikaran (attraction and control).
Origin & Mythology
When Shiva and Parvati were eating, some food dropped to the ground (Uchchishta). From this leftover, defiled food, a beautiful maiden emerged. She asked for their leftovers as her offering. Pleased, they granted her the status of a Mahavidya. Thus, she is uniquely offered leftover or partially eaten food in Tantric rituals.
Divine Iconography
Matangi is emerald green in complexion. She holds a Veena (lute), a parrot, a skull, and a sword. She is often depicted sitting on a corpse or an altar, surrounded by beautiful birds, signifying her connection to nature and music.
