Who is Maa Tripura Sundari?
Also known as Shodashi or Lalita Tripura Sundari, she is the supreme sovereign of the universe, representing divine grace, beauty, and absolute bliss.
Origin & Mythology
She is the presiding deity of the Sri Chakra (Sri Yantra). According to the Lalita Sahasranama and Brahmanda Purana, she emerged from a massive fire sacrifice (Chidi Agni Kunda) to defeat the demon Bhandasura. She represents the complete realization that the universe is essentially beautiful and filled with divine joy.
Divine Iconography
Unlike the fierce forms of Kali and Tara, Tripura Sundari is exceedingly beautiful, glowing like a thousand rising suns. She is depicted as a 16-year-old girl (Shodashi) sitting on a lotus that rests on the body of Lord Shiva (Kameshwara), who in turn rests on a throne supported by Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra, and Ishana.
